The Parker Family Health Center recently hosted their 2013 Volunteer Appreciation Party at Branches, West Long Branch. This is the third time the Health Center has recognized their volunteers since the Parker Center first opened in 2000. Over 200 local doctors, nurses, dentists, interpreters and general volunteers donate their time and services each year to the Health Center and over 150 of these volunteers attended the event.
The evening honored Mrs. Shirley Parker, wife of Dr. James Parker, Jr., and daughter-in-law of Dr. James Parker, Sr., for whom the Health Center was named. In addition to honoring Mrs. Parker, a plaque was presented to Carol Stillwell in honor of her husband, the late Gordon Stillwell. Mr. Stillwell served on the Board at the Parker Family Health Center. Passionate about the vision and mission of the Health Center, Mr. Stillwell donated a generator that allowed the Center to remain operational throughout the power outage caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Master of Ceremonies, Dr. Gene Chelsock, presented the awards to Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Stillwell and commended all the volunteers for their continuing commitment to the Health Center. Special recognition was also received by Gina Petillo, Fundraising Chair for the Health Center.
