Red Bank, NJ
— The Parker Family Health Center has been awarded a grant from the
American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation’s Healthy
Communities/Healthy America program.
Launched this year, the new program provides grants to
outstanding free clinics across the country.
The Parker Center in Red Bank was one of only ten organizations that
received funding in an effort to address the growing problem of the
uninsured and to recognize physician and community volunteerism.
“Diabetes is a significant problem for our patients,” said Dr.
Eugene Cheslock, Parker Center President.
“This funding will have a real impact on their lives and
health.”
“We are pleased to honor the Parker Family Health Center and their
dedication to improving the health of those who are most in need,”
said AMA Foundation President Peter Carmel, MD.
“The AMA Foundation is committed to recognizing the
extraordinary physicians and volunteers who have taken it upon
themselves to provide critical health care services.”
Established in 2000, the Parker Family Health Center provides free
primary health care to low-income, uninsured Monmouth County
residents. Located on
Red Bank’s West Side, the clinic is open six days a week, including
Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday morning.
A children’s health clinic offering immunizations and
well-child care takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Other specialized services include children’s oral health
care, vision screening, women’s health, cancer screening through
NJCEED (New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection), and a
prescription drug program that ensures access to affordable
medication.
The clinic saw close to 10,000 patients in 2006, with over 40,000
cumulative patient-visits since the founding.
Forty percent of patients are from Red Bank, with the rest
from all parts of Monmouth County.
Health care is provided by a network of volunteers, including
physicians, nurses, dentists and other health care professionals,
who donate 10,000 hours of service annually at the clinic.
