Parker Expands Access to Care with New Free Dental Clinic
Parker Family Health Center recently celebrated the opening of a new free dental clinic on the campus of Brookdale Community College, expanding access to essential oral healthcare for uninsured Monmouth County residents.
The clinic, developed through a partnership between Parker Family Health Center, Brookdale Community College, and the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners, will provide preventive and restorative dental services at no cost to eligible patients. Services will include cleanings, fillings, X-rays, simple extractions, and oral health education.
For Parker, the clinic addresses a growing need in the community. Thousands of Monmouth County residents lack dental insurance and often postpone treatment until problems become painful emergencies. The new clinic is expected to serve more than 1,000 patients in its first year.
“Having access to oral healthcare is having access to healthcare. This clinic represents an innovative solution that improves access to essential oral healthcare while helping build the workforce needed to meet future demand."
Suzy Dyer, Executive Director, Parker Family Health Center
The clinic, located on the campus of Brookdale Community College, features 10 dental hygiene bays and two treatment rooms. The volunteer-driven clinic is led by Dr. William “Bill” Lieberman and Clinical Director Dr. Paul Peduto, with support from volunteer dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, Brookdale faculty, and students.
The partnership also creates valuable educational opportunities. Brookdale students studying dental assisting, dental radiology, and future dental hygiene students will gain hands-on clinical experience on campus while helping meet a critical community need. The initiative comes at a time when dental professionals remain in high demand throughout Monmouth County and New Jersey.
More than 100 healthcare leaders, elected officials, volunteers, students, supporters, and community partners attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the milestone.
“This clinic represents years of vision, planning, and collaboration,” said Dr. Eugene Cheslock, Founder and Board Member of Parker Family Health Center. “It combines compassionate care for those in need with the education and training of future dental professionals.”
For 26 years, Parker Family Health Center has provided free healthcare services to uninsured Monmouth County residents through the support of volunteers, donors, and community partners. The new dental clinic continues that mission by ensuring more residents have access to the care they need to live healthier lives.
The clinic will begin seeing patients this summer. To qualify for services, patients must be Monmouth County residents, have no dental insurance, and meet income eligibility guidelines.
